the most recent SDM ports are: SX270, G7x, EOS M3 and EOS M10. a cheaper model is: Ixus 160

PTP could be implemented to SDM on request - but therefore you need a special USB cable where you can switch between data transfer and remote control - since the remote control is for most SDM users more important than transfering the pictures this was not added to SDM. correct me if I"m wrong ...

Do what? Save the extra pixels? Then activate RAW in SDM.

it seems camera crashes (you say: shut off) when using this script - please contact David he also has a SX50 too and may find out the bug here.
